Heather L. Power
I have been practicing labour and employment law since being called to the bar in 2015. I knew in school that I wanted to find an area of law in which I could impact people directly and improve the quality of their lives and relationships. By assisting employers in such facets of labour law as pre-employment, training, policies and procedures, and statutory compliance, I can help them to build the best environment for their employees.
I am known for crafting unique and novel litigation strategies and for acting as a zealous advocate for my clients during every step of the litigation process. I love the challenge of litigating new statutory or regulatory provisions or distinguishing jurisprudence with novel approaches. However, I also strongly believe in meeting my clients’ objectives through the most economical and effective means possible, including through negotiation and mediation.
I provide expert, timely, and concrete advice and representation to employers on a broad range of issues, including employment standards, occupational health and safety, human rights and disability accommodation, privacy and workplace safety and insurance. I have advocated for clients on matters before the Ontario Superior Court, the Divisional Court, and the Court of Appeal. I have also represented clients in proceedings before grievance arbitrators, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal.
Before joining Hunter Liberatore Law, I worked as a sole practitioner, advising and advocating for small- to-medium-sized businesses.
Prior to my legal career, I completed a Master of Public Administration at Queen’s University, after which I worked in senior Ontario government ministries, including the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, where I assisted in the development of new legislation, regulations, and polices. This experience provides me with unique insight into the public sector and the legislative process, which benefits my clients.
My free time is usually spent in the kitchen or sharpening my photography skills.
